Last month, one of our wonderful Second Nature retailers opened their doors to a new-look showroom in Norfolk.

Today, Managing Director, Jamie Anderson, joins us to discuss the new ranges on display, his interior inspiration and what we should be looking out for in 2019…

Congratulations on the new-look showroom, Jamie! What made you decide to take the plunge and renovate?

I’ve wanted to overhaul the showroom for many years, it was really just a question of when.

We’re super lucky that our clients are from all different walks of life, so ensuring we have a showroom that reflects as many collections as possible was an important factor when planning the new space.

What did the renovation look like?

There was lots of unused space at the current premises, so there was no point in finding a bigger one - all we really needed to do was extend! We were keen to show everything we’re able to offer our customers and really wanted to focus on as many collections from Second Nature and its sister company, 1909, as we could.

We decided to replace the Porter Saffron feature door on our Biography display to give it a fresh twist, as the original display was something almost everyone fell in love with as soon as they came through the door (we’ve actually recreated this style in many homes using multiple colour combinations too!).

We also opted for the new Alpina display in Natural Oak, which complements our industrial area beautifully and added in lots of internal storage solutions and worktop options for our customers.

How did Newrooms come into fruition?

I’ve always had a passion for art and design, and my family’s background is in carpentry, so I knew I would always end up doing something along those lines.

I actually first started fitting kitchens as a one-man band called ‘Just J’, but, after seeing a gap in the market for a friendly, approachable showroom in the local area, I decided to take a leap of faith and launched Newrooms in 2003.

Tell us all about the launch, was it as good as you had envisaged?

Oh yes! We were absolutely amazed at the response we received from the local community, past, current and new clients, family and friends. There were over 150 people that joined us to show support over the two-day launch and they all seemed to leave impressed and full of compliments (as well as food).

As a kitchen retailer, we knew it was important to showcase what a kitchen does best; cooking! Bosch Home Economists very kindly provided gorgeous food continuously for the two days, taking people through recipes, giving demonstrations and most importantly, ensured no-one left feeling hungry. Along with the food, we also had champagne for arrival, and a Quooker representative showcasing the amazing brand and just what the tap is capable of!

The whole Newrooms team were there throughout the two days offering advice, arranging appointments and even some on-the-spot consultations. The atmosphere was tremendous - we can’t wait to host our next event!

What’s been your most memorable experience from running your own business?

Helping customers create their dream space all within their desired budget has to be one of the greatest drivers on a daily basis. Over the last 15 years, we’ve worked so hard to offer our customers an incredible experience and provide a kitchen that will stand the test of time – and I truly believe we do!

As head designer, you’ll no doubt keep yourself up-to-date with the latest kitchen industry trends. What should people be looking out for?

Last year, the industry was saturated with grey tones, this year, we seem to have kept this but added blues, greens and blacks into the equation. Later this month we’ll be seeing the addition of Carbon and Regiment to Second Nature’s colour palette, which we’re really excited for. A striking black (Carbon) which is naturally stunning, along with a beautiful green (Regiment) - perfect in modern and traditional styles.

We’re also excited about the launch of Second Nature’s concrete effect doors - it's something we are being asked a lot about and can't wait to fit our first set! There's always something exciting in the kitchen world.

In your opinion, why should customers take a chance on their local independent retailer, rather than running straight to a high-street chain?

We pride ourselves on delivering trusted advice whilst considering every last detail. We don’t rush projects through, or compromise on quality - we’ve even been known to help customers 10 years after their initial purchase! We’re there to guide our customers through the entire process, using market leading products from brands hand-picked for quality, aesthetics and value for money. Basically, we offer an experience completely unique and tailored to each individual customer.

Lastly, we have to ask, what’s your favourite Second Nature range?

We can’t choose just one! Porter Matt handleless & Fitzroy have to be our favourite ranges.

Porter for the ultimate transformation of a kitchen in any style of home - with its sleek lines, a variety of rail colour options and I feel it always achieves a real WOW!

Fitzroy, due to the simple fact that there is nothing else like it! With its chunky outer frame and the ability to sit beautifully beside a Remo / Porter door without looking out of place, it's one range that looks perfect no matter what colour is chosen.
