The clients were looking to change the room to suit the needs of their family. The original kitchen was dark so bi-fold patio doors were installed and an archway through to the breakfast room to create more natural light. Whilst the clients liked classic Shaker style and natural oak they felt a kitchen in this alone would be too much – hence the complimentary mix of oak and ivory to inject a light and airy feel to the room whatever the season.
To retain the airy feel of the room opt for lighter toned granite worktops and flooring. The island in the old kitchen didn’t have seating and this was something the client wanted, so by cleverly creating shallow depth cabinets on the rear of the island with touch latches (so there were no protruding handles to bang knees on) this was achieved. There’s bountiful storage with a tandem larder, magic and le mans corners and internal wire baskets.
