The property is set in a beautiful old manor house that has been converted into a series of apartments and houses. Although the kitchen space had ample proportions it required modernisation to update it to suit the family’s lifestyle. The Broadoak Shaker design in a slate painted finish perfectly suits the surroundings, with a lighter granite worktop, with tones of grey, adding contrast to the scheme. The client required a dining area and the large picture window with its views was a natural place for this to be located. Two boxed window seats with the dining table created an ideal solution.
There were some challenges with the design which stemmed from the architecture of the space. Services could not be moved and the central heating boiler needed to be encased as it too had to remain in its original position. A large chimney breast restricted the use of one wall, however to overcome this problem, and at the same time to keep a streamlined bank of base cabinets, the depth of the carcasees was reduced.
