This project features an extension to the property to create an open plan living space. Originally the client was considering a bespoke painted kitchen, but when they saw Second Nature’s Langham range they realised they could achieve exactly the look they desired within a more affordable budget. An island was essential to their brief with the design to have a modern look, yet with more classic finishing touches, such as plate racks and wicker pull-out baskets. An area for informal seating was required, delivered by the custom-made, kidney-shaped oak peninsular, which ties in with the oak mantle and flooring. This creates an area not only for dining, but for enjoying a glass of wine or reading the morning papers.
The clients ‘must-have’ island had to be practical as well as creating visual interest in the design, therefore plenty of storage is included, housing all the cooking aids to the ovens and hob side of the kitchen. The clients really wanted a range cooker, however after much deliberation and advice from the designer, it was agreed that 2 single ovens, side by side, with an extra wide gas hob over gave them increased cooking capacity and functionality whilst maintaining the contemporary look throughout. A painted glass hob splashback in Elephant Breath complemented the cooking area entirely and also the cabinetry colour palette of stone, parchment white and charcoal.
