This project evolved from a small kitchen, which was opened up by adding a wraparound extension. Although lovers of the Shaker in-frame oak the clients wanted to add a contemporary edge to the scheme so working closely with the designer the result was an island and feature cabinets with a handleless alabaster gloss door. The new layout is ideal for the clients who are big entertainers and now have a room where they can cook and entertain at the same time.
Don’t be afraid of combining different materials and styles of door, it will add interest to the design and prevents one colour overpowering the space. Choose a surface that will complement both colours, as in this kitchen where the modern beige mirror quartz worksurface is perfect for both the natural timber and high-sheen cabinets.
